Social Darwinism: The Evolution of Business

Thesis Statement

 Big businesses used the revolutionary idea of Social Darwinism to justify their growth, which caused those who were against the great power of these companies to react strongly. The opponents said their power needed to be controlled, and eventually the government intervened with the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. Movements to aid the poor, which were against Social Darwinist beliefs, started and led to labor unions.

Herbert Spencer met with many other theorists, such as Charles Darwin. He discussed 'evolutionary' concepts and connected them with sociology, leading to the rise of social evolution, Social Darwinism.
